About this tool
Create a static WebP from a supported JPG and compare the actual size and quality.
- Supported input
- JPG
- Output format
- WebP
- Batch size
- Up to 5 files; format and combined limits below still apply.
How it works
- Add JPG files in Input. Review each thumbnail and its validation status.
- Choose the WebP quality and inspect the processed details before downloading.
- Create the selected files. Compare original and result, then download an individual file or ZIP. Changing settings marks older results out of date.
Supported files and limits
Up to 5 files, 10 MiB each and 25 MiB combined. Each image must fit within 8192 pixels per side and 20 million pixels; a batch is limited to 40 million input pixels. Output is limited to 20 MiB per file and 50 MiB combined. One isolated image job runs at a time, with a 30-second timeout and cancellation.
A practical example
For a JPG photograph intended for the web, try WebP and compare actual file size with the original. Zoom into faces and high-contrast edges before choosing the result.
Troubleshooting this tool
Recompressing a JPG can add a second generation of artifacts. Keep the source and avoid repeatedly converting the same photograph through lossy formats.
JPG input supports 8-bit baseline/progressive RGB or grayscale. EXIF/ICC/multi-picture metadata and CMYK are currently rejected, so orientation and colour profiles are not silently discarded. Export an unprofiled copy from your image editor if needed.
Check the actual export
A smaller WebP is not guaranteed. Re-encoding an already compressed JPG can change fine detail. Inspect downloaded dimensions, transparency and fine edges before replacing an original. Browser encoders differ; a quality setting is not a universal fidelity score, and file size may increase.
Files stay in your browser
No file bytes are uploaded. Ordinary work stays in memory. Choosing a “Continue” action saves that result in this browser for up to 30 minutes, so another compatible working tool can use the actual output. Saved workflows are limited to 50 MiB and 20 files; clear them in Output. Expired entries are removed on later tool visits. Clearing references is not a secure-erasure promise.
If a file fails
Check its actual format and the restrictions above. Renaming a file does not convert it. A failed file does not erase successful batch results. If processing times out, cancel and try fewer or smaller files. A current browser with worker canvas support is required.
Before you use the download
- Compare the actual output byte size with the source; a new encoding can be larger.
- Inspect fine edges, gradients and any transparency background in the downloaded WebP file.
Tools that accept this output
These links use this tool's default output format, subject to each next tool's supported variants and limits. If you change the export format, use Continue in Output to see compatible actions for the actual result. Opening a link below starts another tool without transferring a file.
